Quest Improve their Record to 4-0-1

The Quest Select girls found themselves back in the win column this weekend as they faced the Lamar Lady Lightning. It was a very blustery day in Sugarland as the teams squared off for an exciting match. The play early on was back and forth as Quest started the match with the strong southern wind in their faces. The back line would hold steady, even under the circumstances with outstanding defense play turned in by Jordan, Elyssa, Eliazabeth, Nikki and goal keeper Elyssabeth. Elyssabeth would turn in her second consecutive clean-sheet of the year as the Quest girls would keep Lamar from getting to their net.

The midfielders would be the turning point for the match as Quest began to force their will on the Lamar girls around the 30 minute mark of the first half with some strong pressure from Theresa, Jenna, Haleigh, Megan (Red), Brittany, Brittani, Tiffany, Erin and Carlee. As well as some great attacking runs from Analise, Christina and Kelli. The difference in the match would prove to be on a crossing ball from the central midfield that ended up at the feet of Red, who beat two defenders with the dribble coming from left to right across the box before finishing the ball back into the left corner of the goal. The score would come in the 45+ minute of play in the first half causing one of the Lamar girls to protest so aggressively to the center that she ended up being carded and removed from the match.

With the lead and the wind advantage the Quest girls would spend almost the entire second half putting pressure on the Lamar team. With several opportunities being shut down by some very nice play in the net from the Lamar keeper and a few shots wandering off target, the score would remain 1-0. It was still a very decisive win for the Quest team as they remain in second place in the bracket.

Fall brings rain to Quest's Third Match

The third round of matches finds the fields much cooler and very wet, as our season moves into the middle of October. Another exciting match unfolds for the Quest Select girls as they remain undefeated in this young campaign. The fans that braved the cool breeze and wet conditions would not have to wait long as Quest got started early again. In the second minute of the match Jenna would send a shot ricocheting off the Westside post back across the box to an oncoming Analise who would finish the ball with a decisive shot. However, it would be Westside pulling the match even in the 18th minute of play off a 20 yard shot from a free kick. Then in the 26th minute of play Westside would take the lead on a strong 25 yard shot coming from a crossed ball back to the oncoming mid-fielder. The game would settle into a chess match for the remainder of the first half as the score would remain 2-1 at the mid point.

As the second half got under way the Quest girls would soon establish the tempo of play with great ball movement and strong defensive play from Elizabeth, Elyssa, Nikki and Jordan. The second half “clean-sheet” would be completed by some very nice saves from goal keeper Elyssabeth “E”, who enjoyed the dryer of the goal areas in the second half. The build-up from the Quest midfield would frustrate the Westside team with strong ball-control and combination passing setting a quick paced tone. In the 16th minute Kelli would break through the defense and send a very nice ball across the Westside area finding Christina who would blast the ball home bouncing it off the crossbar and into the goal, pulling the match back to even.

The Quest mid-fields and strikers; Haleigh, Megan (Red), Brittani, Erin Y., Erin W., Kelli, Jenna, Tiffany, Analise and Christina would take over at that point in the match. In the 20th minute Jenna would send a corner kick across the area which would be deflected by Carlee, finally being finished by Erin W. to put the Quest girls on top. The assist combination of Jenna to Carlee would again put the Westside defense to the test with Brittany being the one to find the net in the 27th min to give Quest some breathing room. With the two goal lead and the wet conditions Quest would then slow down the pace of the match, and rely on ball control to stop all potential attacks from the Westside girls.

With their third win the Quest girls are looking forward to next week’s trip up to Zube Park to play the Brenham Athletics, as they look to extend their unbeaten streak to four.

Quest Select pulls out an Exciting win in Week 2

First, let me apologize for getting this post out so late. It was an oversight on my part and I will try to keep things more current moving forward. Anyway, on to the match…

In their second week of action Quest Select started with fireworks early and often, scoring their first goal in only the 7th min of action. The 23 yard shot was set up by Haleigh who took the ball down the right side and sent it back across the attacking area to Megan (Red) who was waiting on the back post. Red made a great trap and a strong shot, sending the ball into the back of the net. Then a minute later Kelli split two defenders on a run right up the middle of the field and sent another strong shot past the keeper from 20 yards out. However, Sugarland would not go down without a fight as they sent a good through ball over the defense finishing the ball for their first goal of the game in the 9th minute of play.

In the 11th minute Quest struck again after a very good buildup it was Analise who found herself open from 30 yards out with a terrific strike on the ball to extend the lead back to 2 goals. Ten minutes later in the 21st minute Kelli would add her name to the score sheet again with her second goal of the match on a very quick break-away run from mid-field finishing the ball around the keeping and pushing the Quest lead to 3 goals. In the 42nd minute Sugarland would again find the back of the net cutting the lead down to 2 goals as the first half would come to a close.

The second half would not see the same pace as the first as the high humidity and heat would start to take its toll on the players from both teams. In the 11th minute it would be Jordan breaking the silence with a very powerful shot from 35 yards out putting the ball into the upper 90 on the back post of the Sugarland goal. Down by 3 and with the Texas sun beating down on them the Sugarland team would again find a way to fight back scoring goals in the 13th and 37th minutes to cut the lead to only 1 with less then 10 minutes to play. The match would ultimately come down to several outstanding defensive plays by Elyssa, Elizabeth, Nikki, Brittani and Jordan.

A very special “thank you” goes out to Theresa, one of our strongest mid-fielders who played in the goal the entire match, because “E” was suffering from flu like symptoms at game time.
Another great job was turned in by the outstanding mid-field play from Christina, Jenna, Haleigh, Megan, Carlee, Britney, Erin Y. and Erin W., without their contirbutions we could not have pulled this game out.
