Quest Girls Win Big in Week 8

The Quest girls rebounded very big from last week’s match with a huge win on Sunday and another step towards achieving their goal of getting to post season play. I was an early morning for the girls with an 8:00 AM start time, but the girls wasted no time in getting on the score sheet finding the back on the net in the 12th minutes of play. Quest had been applying pressure to the Kingwood (KW) defense from the start of the match but it was Haleigh who would work her way around the defense down the left side of the goal and send a strong cross through the KW defensive third. Megan (Red) would be the recipient of this cross with a great first touch and a strong finish past the KW keeper putting the Quest girls up early. Nine minutes later the Quest attach would extend the lead, this time it was Erin Y. from the right side pushing a ball up the field and sending another dangerous ball across the KW penalty area. Haleigh would be waiting on this ball taking it off the half volley and driving it into the back of the KW net. Outstanding pressure was applied throughout the first half by Quest strikers and mid-fielders Kelli, Analise, Red, Haleigh, Christina, Erin Y., Tiffany, Brittani and Erin W.

The second half would open even faster than the first with Kelli finding the back of the net in only the 2nd minute of play. After breaking though the midfield, Kelli struck a powerful shot over the head of the KW keeper from 27 yards out. In the 4th minute of play Red would score her second goal of the match, finishing a ball that was sent across the face of the goal by Theresa from a corner kick. It would then be the defense and holding mid-fielders that would take over this match, disrupting every KW attack and keeping the pressure on the KW defense. Mid-fielders Theresa, Jenna Brittney and Carlee along with defenders Jordan, Elyssa, Liz and Nikki would lead this effort as Quest would complete the shut-out. Keeper Elyssabeth (E) would record a first half clean sheet, and then have a little fun running the field in the second half as Tiffany and Kelli would share some second half minutes in the net for Quest.

The Quest attack would be back on the score sheets in the 17th minutes when Haleigh would score her second goal of the match picking up a loose ball in the KW box and driving it into the lower left corner of the net. The scoring would come to an end in the 43rd minute as Red would again find the net and complete her first hat trick of the season. The shot was a strong drive from 21 yards out on a cross from E, after she had escaped from the goal. It was an overpowering match by the Quest girls and with only one match left in the regular season Quest is solidly placed in second place in their bracket.

Select Suffer First Loss in Hard Fought Battle With Pride

The Quest girls suffered their first loss of the season Sunday in a great battle between the top two teams in the bracket standings. Klein Pride entered this match unbeaten and untied for the season and it would not be long before the reason for this record became obvious. It was a back and forth battle for possession as the Quest defense faced the strongest attack they have seen all season. The Quest defense was again led by goalkeeper Elyssabeth (“E”), who recorder several very nice saves in the first half. Outstanding defensive play was also turned in by Elizabeth, Nikki, Elyssa and Jordan to keep the score 0-0 going into half-time.

The Quest mid-fielders Haleigh, Erin, Theresa, Tiffany, Jenna, Brittani, Erin and Brittney had to work very hard to string together passes and maintain possession. However, they were successful in getting several very nice through balls into space behind the Pride defense for strikers Kelli, Analise, Christina, and Red who worked very hard the entire match to create opportunities.

However, it would be the Pride that finally broke through in the 17th minute of the second half on a free kick from 20 yards out. While the call was questionable the shot was not as the Pride mid-fielder would drive home the shot over the Quest wall and into the side netting of the goal. The Pride defense held in the late minutes of the match as the Quest attack pushed the ball forward seeking an equalizer. It was a heartbreaking loss for the Select girls who remain in second place in the bracket.

Select Open November with Another Win

I fell behind on the updates again, but here is another attempt to get caught up.

Quest Select open November with another big win over the Montgomery County Ice. The weather could not have been better as the Quest girls took advantage of the clear sky and cool breeze to open up the scoring early in the match. In only the 11th minute of the match outside mid-fielder Megan (Red) drove the ball hard down the left side of the MC defense splitting two defenders and driving home a very strong shot inside the near post. It was only nine minutes later when the Quest attack would strike again. This time it was Kelli from her attacking mid-field position taking a ball across the center of the field and sending a rocket of a shot into the left center of the net over the outstretched arms of the MC keeper. Kelli was not done scoring in this match as she struck again a few minutes later in the 26th minute of play. Her second goal was a great slotted pass from Carlee that placed Kelli in the box with the ball and a great finish.

The Quest girls would then completely take over the match by moving the ball around and building up large stretches of ball possession. The strikers Analise, Christina, Kelli and Red would continue to make great runs off the ball working with mid-fielders Haleigh, Carlee, Theresa, Tiffany, Jenna, Brittani, Erin and Brittney. The Quest defense was led by goalkeeper Elyssabeth (“E”), who recorder a clean sheet by taking care of the entire compliment of MC shots on goal. However, the MC shots were few with the outstanding defensive play of Elyssa, Elizabeth, Nikki and Jordan who shut down the MC attack completely in the second half of play.

Late in the match it would be Quest who would strike again in the 38th minute. This time Brittani would be the recipient of a crossing ball from Kelli from the MC bi-line. As the ball was bouncing across the MC box Brittani would drive home the half volley to complete the Quest scoring for the day and bring the Quest record to 5-0-1
